FAQs
Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions!
Fine Art Prints
1. What is the difference between a fine art print and an original?
Quite simply, an original is a piece of art which I hand-painted (usually, on 100% cotton, cold-pressed paper). Its uniqueness attracts a higher value than a fine art print, however a fine art print allows me as an artist to reproduce my original painting to create multiple versions. My work is sold in both open and limited editions.
What is a Giclée print?
A giclée or archival print is a fine art print that has been created with fade-resistant pigment inks using a sophisticated inkjet printmaking process that creates the highest quality fine art reproductions.
All of my original hand-painted watercolour artwork is reproduced using the giclée method to ensure the print that you receive bears a true resemblance to the original and is of the highest quality. The paper I currently use is the finest archival 310gsm Hahnemühle German Etching Paper.
Please note that due to the fine art printing process which uses rolls, your fine art print may have a natural 'curl' to it. This will flatten out over time, including when framed.
2. How long do your Giclée prints last?
Giclée printing is designed to last a lifetime - it is museum quality, which is why I exclusively use it and believe that all artwork should be giclée-printed.
Please be aware that exposure to direct sunlight may reduce the lifetime of the piece.
4. What are the measurements for your fine art prints?
A3 | 11-3/4" x 16-1/2" | 297 x 420mm |
A4 | 8-1/4" x 11-3/4" | 210 x 297mm |
A5 | 5-7/8" x 8-a/4" | 148 x 210mm |
5. Will the colour of the fine art print be exactly as per the original and what I see on screen?
Please note that the colours in printed products may vary slightly from what you see on your screen due to differences in screen settings, resolutions, and calibrations. Additionally, slight variations may occur between original artwork and the printed versions, as fine art printing processes and materials can influence the final appearance.
I do my best to ensure the highest quality and closest possible match to the original piece, but these differences are a natural part of the art reproduction process. Please also note that every screen, whether on your phone, tablet or computer, represents colour differently.
6. What is a limited edition print?
A limited edition print is a print which has a limit on the number of reproductions. This means that only a certain number of prints are available for purchase in the world. Each of my limited edition prints will come signed with a certificate of authenticity and an edition number. Due to the limited nature, these prints are more valuable and have a higher price point than my open-edition prints. These prints will take longer to produce as they are individually made to order.
7. Are your fine art prints signed?
Yes - these are signed on the front or back (depending on the type of print) and dated.
Limited Edition prints also come with a hand-written and signed certificate of authenticity containing details of the edition. This should be kept safely with the print.
8. Do your original paintings come with a certificate?
Absolutely. Each original painting comes with a hand-written and signed certificate of authenticity confirming that the painting is one-of-a-kind.
Copyright and Ownership
Who owns the artwork after purchase?
All original artwork and prints sold by me remain my exclusive intellectual property. When you purchase an original painting of mine, you have the right to display the artwork, but you may not resell or reproduce it without my written permission. I retain all rights to any artwork I create, including the rights to the image of sold and commissioned original paintings (including but not limited to copyright ownership). I reserve the right to make reproductions of any and all artwork I create, unless the rights to my artwork have been assigned to or purchased by you under the terms of a written, legal agreement. Reproduction of my artwork in any way is prohibited without written permission from me. By purchasing my artwork, you are granted a limited licence for private and personal display and/or enjoyment. Any party to whom the artwork may subsequently be gifted shall be bound by the same restrictions as the purchaser.
